Celebrating Women’s Day: A Call to Dignity, Mercy, and Inclusion

This year, our church joyfully celebrated Women’s Day with a special reflection on Luke 5:27-32, a passage that speaks of Jesus’ call to the marginalized and His invitation to a life of grace. As we gathered in prayer and thanksgiving, we were reminded of the powerful role women play in the Church, the family, and society.

In his message, our priest highlighted three key themes from the Gospel that resonate deeply with the mission of Women’s Day:

1. The Call to Dignity
Just as Jesus called Levi, the tax collector, to follow Him—seeing not his past, but his potential—so too does God call every woman to embrace her dignity. Women are created in the image of God, and their contributions to faith, family, and community are invaluable. Our celebration was a beautiful reminder that the Church must continue to affirm and uphold the worth of every woman.

2. The Call to Mercy
Jesus’ response to the Pharisees—“I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance”—reminds us of His heart of mercy. Around the world, many women still face challenges of inequality and injustice. As a Church, we are called to be agents of healing and hope, advocating for a world where every woman experiences the love and justice of Christ.

3. The Call to Inclusion
In sharing a meal with tax collectors and sinners, Jesus broke barriers and invited the excluded into His circle. This is our call as well—to build communities where women’s voices are heard, where their leadership is encouraged, and where their gifts are celebrated.

As part of the Women’s Day celebrations, our church held a special prayer service, recognising the contributions of women in ministry, family life, and society. Inspiring testimonies were shared, highlighting the resilience and faith of women who continue to make a difference in the world.

As we move forward, may we carry the spirit of this day in our hearts—ensuring that dignity, mercy, and inclusion are not just words, but a lived reality in our faith community.

Happy Women’s Day!
